“Catering to Our Community” Program Winners Announced
DALLAS, TEXAS – April 20, 2009 – A tasty way to kick off National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 19-26), Corner Bakery Cafe today announced a lengthy list of charitable organizations that will receive free catered meals as the winners of its month-long “Catering to Our Community” contest. From March 12 through April 12, Corner Bakery Cafe invited guests and neighbors to nominate non-profit organizations making positive impacts in their communities. Organizations were entered for the chance to win complimentary Corner Bakery Cafe catering for breakfast or lunch.
Out of nearly 1,000 entries, more than 100 organizations were randomly selected as winners, one for each participating Corner Bakery Cafe. Winning organizations range from the Cancer Care Foundation in Wilmette, Ill. to the American Red Cross Dallas Area Chapter and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in San Diego to Helping Out Pets Everyday (HOPE) in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Volunteers at each organization will choose from Corner Bakery’s signature catering items like the Corner Breakfast, Corner Trio or Corner Classic, which includes an assortment of delicious sandwiches, fresh salads and sweet treats.
“In the current economic climate, many non-profit organizations have limited funding available to recognize the volunteers who work so hard to keep their organizations running smoothly,” said Jim Vinz, President and Chief Operating Officer, Corner Bakery Cafe. “We’re always looking for ways to give back to our neighborhoods, so we created this program to celebrate those who so selflessly dedicate their time to helping others.”
Other winning organizations include Operation Partnership, a non-profit that works to disseminate security and safety info to downtown Fort Worth, Texas businesses, and Volunteer Fairfax, an organization that mobilizes people and resources in the Fairfax, Va. area to meet community needs. Others include the Simi Valley, Calif. Family YMCA and Young & Healthy in Pasadena, Calif., a health care program that provides free medical, dental, psychological and case-management services to low-income, uninsured children in Pasadena schools, day care centers and homeless shelters.
The “Catering to Our Community” program kicked off March 12 when Corner Bakery Cafe deployed its catering vans across the country and delivered food to more than 800 community volunteers in action.
The list of confirmed winning organizations is posted online and will be updated throughout this week on Corner Bakery Cafe’s Good Neighbors Web page.
